West African Quality System Program (WAQSP)

The West African Quality Program was launched to strengthen ECOWAS Region’s quality infrastructure to make it more effective and competitive for an overall improved intra and inter regional trade.

After an initial first phase of the program which run from 2001-2005, a second phase was launched in 2007. The components covered include Quality policy; Standardization; Accreditation; Certification; Metrology; Conformity Assessment and Quality Culture.

Under the program and in line with the ECOWAS Quality Policy, regional accreditation bodies have been trained as a way of building capacity and quality infrastructure for the effective assessment of ECOWAS Accreditation Bodies. The training also enabled the ECOWAS Regional System (ECORAS) to meet the requirements of ISO/IEC 17020
