Member States

ECOWAS is an Economic Community of West African States comprising 15 member states or member countries. Out of the 15, 6 are English Speaking (The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone);2 Portuguese (Cabo Verde and Guinea Bissau) and seven French Speaking countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Niger and Togo).

11 out of the 15 Members States are classified as Least Developed Countries (LDC) and fully benefit from Aid for Trade allocated support. These 11 countries are Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Senegal Sierra Leone and Togo. Cabo Verde is the most recent Member State to graduate from the LDC status.
